A small, friendly city in the northern interior of Portugal. It once had an important castle but nowadays only the keep is still standing. It also has two other interesting forts and some exceptional churches.
Typical food includes meat dishes, especially the Trás-os-Montes stews, smoked ham and other dishes featuring meat cooked on the bone.
