PONTE DA BARCA
The charming scenery along the banks of the River Lima, the Peneda-Gerês forests and the challenges of the paths all offer an unforgettable day’s cycling.
VINEYARDS AND TRADITIONS DRIVE
Take the Ponte de Lima road past the vineyard on the right. Pass Bravães, then Lavradas, approximately four kilometres out of Ponte de Barca. Turn left (after the Lavradas signpost) and go up the road to a vineyard, maize plantations and irrigation tank. Continue along this small road until you reach a cross, then turn left following the signs for Landim. When you reach it, you will start travelling across a small valley and will be able to appreciate just how the farmers made use of every small piece of land. There are a few houses scattered amongst the vineyards and maize fields, and olive, orange, chestnut and oak trees are dotted on the landscape. A pine grove on your left follows the course of the road so closely that at one point you drive into it along the same narrow path. Even today, small wood processing businesses take advantage of the wooded area, as you will see from the small saw-mills you pass on the way.
