A VISIT TO ALMOUROL CASTLE
An example of Knights Templar military architecture, the Almourol Castle was built on a small island in the middle of the Tagus. This is one of the best known monuments in the country. This outstanding building, perched on top of an immense rock emerging from the river, seems like a scene from a fairy tale. It is situated 6km away from Vila Nova da Barquinha. (November through March: 10 am – 5 pm; April through October: 10 am – 7.30 pm)
A VISIT TO ALMOUROL CASTLE, BY BOAT
From the banks of the river, you can catch a small boat (everyday between April the 1st and October the 31st: 10 am – 7 pm; from November the 1st to March the 31st, only weekends and holidays. € 2). From Tancos, at the Cais d'El Rei (boat with a 50 people capacity. 10 am -5 pm. € 2.50. Booking obligatory). WALK ALONG THE PASSEIO RIBEIRINHO (RIVER WALK)
This walk takes you to the banks of the river. Take your time enjoying the peace and quiet of this idyllic spot, take a stroll under the canopy and muster your energy by the quiet waters of the Tejo.
