PARQUE NATURAL DE SINTRA-CASCAIS
CABO DA ROCA
This is the westernmost point of continental Europe. Europe ends here, abruptly, among ragged cliffs beaten by the sea. The terrain dramatically steepens as it approaches the Atlantic coast. The cliffs are more than 100 meters high. One feels the profound earthly energy that has formed this place. A lighthouse stands proud, warning all ships to stay clear from this dangerous place. Also, it is truly astonishing.
CAPUCHOS CONVENT
This is a small convent built amongst the thick, tall tree woods, in which dew,
moss and ferns are found everywhere. The convent looks like a Lilliputian village: the cells are very small and the
ceiling is extremely low. Were the monks forest dwarfs?
PENINHA CONVENT
At the west end of the range, in the last peak of the mountains, one finds Peninha,
with a landscape totally opposite to that of Pena (in the east end). Here we find low vegetation withstanding
strong winds, and a view over the sea, 490m above sea level.
