PARQUE NATURAL DA SERRA DE SÃO MAMEDE
Overview
The São Mamede Nature Park covers an area of the Alentejo in which the typical landscape of plains dotted with cork oaks and olive trees changes to oak and chestnut woods. It extends over two distinct areas: the northern and central area, rising to altitudes above 800m, with prominent areas of high land, and the southern area, with gentle, undulating hills.

The park contains many different and important species of flora and fauna. In addition to mammals, amphibians and reptiles, there is also an outstanding variety of birds. As this area lies on the migration routes between Europe and Africa used by many species, it is an important place for bird watchers.
