DRIVE FROM BELMONTE TO SABUGAL
After visiting Belmonte, set off in the direction of Sabugal on the N345 and 345-1, turning left at the railway station. Drive through a very flat area, which changes after you turn off for Sortelha into an area full of granite boulders. Stop to visit this historic village, lost in the midst of stone monuments and surrounded by strong walls. Returning to your journey, follow the minor road to Sabugal. Visit the area surrounding the medieval castle and enjoy the superb view of the River Côa, whose 50 km course ends here.
Close to the Serra da Estrela and bathed by the River Zêzere, the Belmonte river beach is a pleasant place which has both a sandy and a grassy area. There is also a picnic area where you can relax and a football pitch.
