VISIT THE CAMBARINHO BOTANTICAL RESERVE
The Cambarinho Botanical Reserve lies in Cambarinho, on the northern side of the Caramulo mountains (near Campia, Oliveira de Frades: to reach the park, you must walk the final stretch). The Cambarinho Botantical Reserve contains the largest concentration of Rhododendron Ponticum in Europe, providing 24 hectares of purple flowers. When the rhododendrons bloom they provide a spectacular and colourful display of one of the rare examples of the spontaneous growth of a species that has survived since the Tertiary Age. It is open permanently and is well worth visiting in May and June when the plants flower.
