When To Go:
Lawrence's Hotel, the oldest hotel on the Iberian Peninsula and the first of its kind in Europe has been operating since 1764. The Hotel became most known, after the ten days visit of Lord George Byron in 1809, but other famous people stayed in Lawrence's, such as William Beckford, Eça de Queiros, Camilo Castelo Branco, Alexandre Herculano, and many others, both from the political as well as from the art scene. Close to the centre of Sintra, Lawrence's offered excellent atmosphere in a very cosy and warm accommodation. It is with this concept in mind that Lawrence's reopened in 1999.Lawrence's Hotel is a boutique hotel, with a homely environment, offering 16 bedrooms, of which five are suites, all differently decorated but in a bucolic, romantic style. For a relaxed conversation the guests will have several sitting rooms and a small bar. The restaurant and terrace can seat up to 75 people. A mixture of typical Portuguese food with an international flair will satisfy every client. The views the guest can observe from the various parts of the hotel are the unique beauty of Sintra… Memorable!
