Portugal Luxury Tour - Day 1


Lisbon has justly won 3 of the 2009 World Travel Awards for Europe: Europe's Leading City Break Destination,
Europe's Leading Cruise Destination  and Europe's Leading Destination. These are only some of the reasons why you should not miss one of the most charming cities in the world: LISBON.

Portugal Luxury Tour - Day 2


In the morning, head for the Belém district, where you will find some of the most famous monuments in Lisbon: Belém Tower, Discoveries Monument and Jerónimos Monastery . This is a very pleasant area in Lisbon, go for a stroll along the river, where you can sit at many of the cafés and restaurants facing the Tejo (river Tagus). Relax at  Cafetaria Quadrante (Inside Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathe in the special atmosphere of this beautiful spot. In the afternoon you can visit some Museums. Here, you are spoilt for choice: See old, beautiful coaches at Museu dos Coches, admire modern art at Centro Cultural de Belém or go further  north and visit the excellent art collection at  Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga  (National Museum of Ancient Art)( Lisbon - Estrela, Lapa and Doca de Alcântara).

And why not end your day at one of the most elegant Lisbons restaurants?. Eleven restaurant  has a a unique location just above Parque Eduardo VII with a stunning view over Lisbon and the River Tagus. With a warm and sophisticated atmosphere and outstanding food that is an ongoing celebration of the art of living life to the full.

Portugal Luxury Tour - Day 3

Lisbon / Cascais / Lisbon / Sintra

Leave Lisbon and head for Cascais on the "Estrada Marginal". This road drives you along the river Tejo until it meets the sea in Caxias. This "encounter" is signalled by a small lighthouse in the middle of the waters, "Farol do Bugio". Apart from this, you will go past forts, beaches, Manor Houses until you reach the magnificent view over the Cascais bay and its palacial houses. Stop at Cascais for lunch and take a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk or just walk through Cascais´s squares and charming places. Head north towards Cabo da Roca, the westermost point of Continental Europe. Continue your trip through the meandering roads of Sintra mountain until you reach Sintra, a fairy-tale village. The whole village is enthralling, from the tiniest corner to the most exuberant of palaces. Places to visit: the exquisite Sintra National Palace, the mystical Quinta da Regaleira, the enigmatic Monserrate Park or the magnificent Pena National Palace, where you can have a well-deserving break and sit at the terrace whilst enjoying the superb views. Seteais Palace, now a 5-star hotel, is the perfect place to have a coffee or a cup of tea, overlooking the gardens.Sintra has been classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. An absolutely must see!!

Portugal Luxury Tour - Day 4

Lisbon / Évora

Roughly 150km south east of Lisbon, Évora stands out quite distinctly on the vast horizon of the Alentejo plain. Its historical centre is protected by a vast ring of fortified walls, currently considered World´ss Heritage by UNESCO. There is plenty to see in Évora. Stroll along the narrow rodas, visit many of its outstanding churches and monuments, have lunch at one of Évora's magnificent restaurants and visit one of the may Wine Estates around the city. Near the on the ruins of the Roman Temple you can Visit Boa Boca, a store that sells traditional gourmet products and where you can have a coffee whilst trying one of their high quality specialties.  In Évora you will stay at one of the most luxurious Hotels in Portugal: Convento do Espinheiro. Be prepared for a big treat!!

Portugal Luxury Tour - Day 5

Évora / Monsaraz / Évora

Leave Évora and head for Monsaraz, a beautiful little village perched on top of a hill. Stroll along its roads, pay a visit to Loja Mizette which sells hand-woven wool blankets and have lunch in one of the restaurants. In the afternoon you can visit Amieira Marina and go for a boat trip on the Alqueva dam!

Portugal Luxury Tour - Day 6

Évora / Marvão / Belmonte

Leave Évora and head  North, towards Marvão. This little village on top of a steep hill canot be missed! Climb up to the stone passageway that runs along the battlements and walk its entire length circling the town.  The view is absolutely wonderful. Have lunch at the Pousada's restaurant boasting breathtaking views over the hills and plains. In the afternoon head for  Belmonte. Visit the Castle in the morning and be surprised by its remarkable manueline window as well as Cabral family coat of arms. Pedro Álvares Cabral, the discoverer of Brazil, (The Discoveries) was born here. Also, Belmonte is known for its Jewish community and Synagogue.

Portugal Luxury Tour - Day 7

Belmonte / Peso da Régua

Leaving Belmonte and heading for the Alto Douro Wine Region, you will be surprised at the magnificence and beauty of the landscape. I From Mesão Frio to Vila Nova de Foz Côa, almost on the border with Spain, the Douro Wine Region is one of the most striking and beautiful areas to explore. It is an imposing landscape, in which the large vineyards, arranged in terraces and tended by hand, descend gracefully almost to the banks of the River Douro.  Visit the many estates, sample their nectars or even join in with the harvest in September. The region was justly awarded World Heritage status by Unesco in 2001, in the Cultural Landscape category. Definitely not to be missed on your visit in Portugal.

Portugal Luxury Tour - Day 8

Peso da Régua / Lamego / Peso da Régua

There is plenty to see in the Alto Douro Wine Region. Go to Lamego, one of the cities with a higher number of monuments per square metre. You can visit Lamego Cathedral and stop by Sé Gourmet, a special place where the consumer can calmly appreciate, taste and buy a diversify  of high quality local products.
If you wish to get to know this region deeper, go to Pinhão. Look at the azulejo panel at the train station, clim up to Casal de Loivo's terrace, from where you will have a breathtaking view over river Douro and its terraces. Also, a good option is simply to stay at your Hotel and relax! You deserve it!

Peso da RéguaPorto

Roughly in 45 minutes you are in  Porto, the second biggest city in Portugal. It includes the greater part of the city where you can taste various confectionary specialties at Magestic Café. This place tells us  about Portos's history, with a service of excellence and quality plus its gastronomic specialties.  Also, the city's centre is not to be missed (Porto - Central Porto).
Discover the city centre on foot. Do not miss Lello Bookshop, visit the Palácio da Bolsa (the Chamber of Commerce) with its splendorous Arabian Hall, the S. Francisco Church with its overwhelming gilded carved wood decoration.

Walk along the Ribeira, one of the most picturesque quarters of Porto. Cross over D. Luis bridge and head for Gaia, where you can taste a glass of Port at Port Wine Cellar.

Porto / Guimarães / Braga / Porto

Continue until the birthplace of our nation, Guimarães. It  is believed that the first king of Portugal was born here, D. Afonso Henriques. Visit Nossa Senhora da Oliveira Church and walk through the historic centre of this charming city. Unwind at many of Guimarãe's cafés and esplanades. In Braga   the Cathedral, the oldest in Portugal and Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary, The beautiful sanctuary lies in the outskirts of Braga and consists of a church on top of a hill which is reached by climbing a colossal stairway built into the hillside.

Portugal Luxury Tour - Day 12

Porto / Coimbra

There’s a story to be told on each small lanes, stairways and terraces, and endless hidden corners, from the lower to the upper zone of Coimbra. The New Cathedral cannot be missed by its glorious gilded wooden altarpiece in the chancel from 16th century. However, if you are a nature lover go on a boat trip on the river Mondego where you can appreciate all the surrounding nature. One of Coimbra's magnificent spots, Café Santa Cruz where you will be surprised by the domed ceiling and the stained glass windows.Leave Coimbra in the direction of Aveiro. We suggest you stop at Buçaco, whose Neo-Manueline Palace invites one to have a romantic time and dream!

Coimbra / Lisbon

On your way down to Lisbon, stop at Alcobaça   and pay a visit to the renowned Alcobaça Monastery, a Unesco Heritage Site. The Gothic church, with its baroque façade along with the cloister, make it one of the most beautiful pieces of Cistercian architecture in Portugal.Have a break in one of the terraces near the Monastery and try the local specialties in the restaurants around the square. Alternatively, you can visit Batalha Monastery, a fine example of gothic architecture. Should you be more interested in visiting picturesque villages  do not miss Óbidos, a charming little village inside a castle.
