This bridge was built between 1759 and 1793, after the previous bridge collapsed. The bridge was designed by architect D. José Martín de Aldehuela. It is 98 metres high and links the historical area to the modern area of the city. It is made up of a central arch supported by another smaller one, which crosses the river. The upper area was made up of cells, also supported by arches, and it was, in fact, used as a prison at one time. Inside there is an interesting Interpretation Centre about the structure. It is considered to be the city’s most emblematic monument and offers visitors superb views over the canyon and the whitewashed houses.
